About Carter Creek Winery & Tasting Room
Located at the gateway to the Texas Wine Country, a few miles outside of Johnson City on the 290 Highway. Carter Creek Winery & Tasting Room is a family owned endeavor, partnering with Texas native Jon McPherson for over twenty years. Located on a sprawling 38 acre property, Carter Creek Resort & Spa features 78 Villas, Old 290 Brewery & Restaurant, & Spa. Our winemaker has been working with Texas High Plain growers to provide excellent wines dating back to 2016. Our onsite 8 acres of vines, planted in 2019, is planning for it’s first harvest in 2023. We invite you to come out, spread out, and sip on our award winning wine, craft beer, and culinary delights.
What Makes Carter Creek Winery & Tasting Room Unique?
Our winemaker Jon’s father was instrumental in the growth of the Texas wine industry and Jon remembers helping his wine pioneering father, Doc McPherson, plant over 140 grape varietals, as part of a Texas Tech exploratory viticulture program, working in the vineyard alongside his father and brothers at the age of 14. In 1985, after graduating from Texas Tech with a B.S. in Food Science and a second degree in Chemistry, Jon headed for Southern California, and after 20 years of winemaking with the Carter Family, he is thrilled to be back in Texas making great award winning wines.
Visit our unique property and in addition to award winning white, rose, red, & sparking wines we also feature: Texas Craft Beer from Brewmaster Justin Zimmerman, Restaurant, Event Center & Stage, Live Music on weekends, 78 Villas, & Spa with dry sauna.
