Class of 2019 New Winery Members
2019 marked the 20th anniversary of Texas Hill Country Wineries (THCW). The association was established in 1999 with 16 founding members and over the years, THCW has grown into the largest association of wineries in the Texas Hill Country, with 60 members! As we enter the new year get to know the newest Texas Hill Country Wineries members who joined us this past year.
Bingham Family Vineyards knows Texas wine! The multigenerational wine growing family promises the curious wine explorer a joyful experience through 100% Texas grown and crafted estate wines. Blue Lotus Winery is where the fun is! Enjoy tasting their delicious wines in their wine barrel-shaped tasting room, where they have board games, puzzles, a life-sized chess set, and giant Jenga set for a guaranteed good time. Not only does Blue Lotus Winery offer 100% Texas wines, they also offer the world’s oldest fermented beverage: Mead. Mead is a mixture of fermenting honey and water. Perfect for a winter day, stop by and try a glass of Mead!
Located in “downtown” Stonewall, TX, Cicada Cellars is an award-winning boutique winery. They specialize in creating new blends, as they like their offerings to be unique and creative. Cicada Cellars aims to take you on an experience different from the “standard” Cabs, Pinots, Malbecs, and Chardonnays you might be used to. They produce small, limited quantities of each blend, which allows flexibility and freedom from contracts for quantities of grapes that simply don’t work for them (or you). Cicada Cellars is proud to have been the first winery in Texas to produce a wine “second aged” in Garrison Brothers whiskey barrels. On top of that, they offer wines packaged in 50ml “tiny bottles” and “tiny six-packs.” Stop by this new winery today and try their new blend options or grab a pack of their “tiny bottles”!
Farmhouse Vineyard was born with wine in their blood. The brother-sister combo and multi-generational farming family that together grows 7,000 acres of row crops and 4 vineyards at 3 sites. First and foremost Farmhouse Vineyard are growers. For them, the ultimate reward is not making boutique runs of their wines, but receiving vineyard designation with their clients. With 112 acres of wine grapes of all ages located in West Texas within the High Plains AVA. You could call them “Committed.” Stop by their tasting room in Johnson City to give their impeccable wines a try!
Heath Sparkling is the first Texas Winery completely dedicated to Sparkling wines. Nestled in the heart of the Texas Hill Country Wine region, next to Grape Creek Vineyards, Heath Sparkling Wines is bound to wow you with their new stunningly modern tasting room. Take a day trip up north to Stoneledge Winery and Vineyard, where you won’t be disappointed by the breathtaking Hill Country views, 200-acre property, including the 11-acre vineyard , and delicious wine. This winery and vineyard handles almost all aspects of its winemaking in-house. Construction of the winery and tank room began in 2017, incorporating unique features to ensure all wines are of the best quality. For over 20 years, Greg and Deborah Gissler have called this ranch home. After developing a passion for wine, and discovering their ranch was suitable for grape growing, their dream of being a part of the Texas wine industry became a reality. Located in the heart of historic downtown Kerrville, Turtle Creek Olives & Vines is part olive orchard and part vineyard. The 160-acre property is the perfect place to unwind with a glass of exceptional wine! Their tasting room features fine wines from around the world, a 100% Texas Turtle Creek Olives and Vines private label wines, and authentic olive oil. Enjoy a luxurious tasting experience in their stunning tasting room located inside a historic 1890 Masonic Lodge. Looking for an event or wedding space? Look no further! Turtle Creek Olives & Vines also serves as a vacation rental, wedding venue, and event space.
The newest addition to the Wedding Oak family, located in Burnet, TX. The tasting room highlights the restoration of the historic two-story 1883 Badger Building including a rooftop terrace, large patio, event area, and an elevator for easy access. Wedding Oak believes that wine is about the shared pleasures in life. They urge you to slow down long enough to appreciate life. We couldn’t be happier to close out our 20th anniversary year by welcoming our new members to the association. With the addition of every new winery, there is more room for collaboration and innovation in the Texas Wine industry.
