Fall Creek Vineyards celebrates 30 year anniversary of winery
FALL CREEK VINEYARDS… Growing a Texas Wine Tradition since 1975

Austin – TX (August 24, 2012) Thirty years ago, Fall Creek Vineyards co-owners Ed and Susan Auler commenced building the FCV winery facility at Tow, Texas and, from the very beginning of this new enterprise, have always been focused on “building a Texas wine tradition”. Now, 30 years later, they are “expanding that Texas wine tradition” with Fall Creek Vineyards taking charge of winemaking for all of the grapes from Salt Lick Vineyard, Driftwood, TX, this 2012 harvest, which includes, Tempranillo (which they have harvested for the past 3 years), Syrah, Grenache, Mouvedre, and Sangiovese.

“There will be additional experimental grapes with which we will be working with in the future. We have experimented with multitudes of grape varieties in the last 37 years, since our first planting in 1975, and maybe now we are getting a clearer picture of grape growing in Texas,” says Ed Auler, Winemaker and Co-Founder of FCV with his wife, Susan Auler.

“We have proven that Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay grapes can produce high quality wines when grown in the right Texas soils and vinified with the correct winemaking craft. So, now we continue working with grapes from Spain and the South of France, in particular, to match the right varieties with the best soil conditions to produce exceptional wines,” he adds.

FCV and FCV wines have been honored with a host of awards and accolades throughout the years (see highlights below).

This year also marks the very first time that guests have been able to tour the 100’ Fall Creek Falls, a natural wonder located on the shores of beautiful Lake Buchanan on the Auler’s private ranch. Special guided bus tours are led by Ed Auler who is an expert on the area and illuminates its fascinating history dating back to pre-historic times.There will be a number of exciting events and tastings throughout the remainder of the year to celebrate the anniversary. These include (see website for details and updates);

    · Grapestomp – Saturday, August 25th Guests will be treated to a Celebrity Chef luncheon with Jonathan Gelman, special reserve tastings, BBQ on the patio, hayrides, Castle Bounce and live music.

    · Labor Day ‘Gourmet Getaway’ to the Falls & special tasting – Saturday, September 1st Guests will be transported by bus to Fall Creek Falls for a spectacular seated gourmet picnic lunch prepared by renowned chef Rob McMahon, paired with Fall Creek Vineyard wines.

    · Special Barrel Tasting of old and rare library October 14th & 28th. In honor of Texas Wine Month, FCV will be hosting two very special tastings of old and rare library wines, sampling through years of FCV winemaking and offering up limited bottles for purchase.

Fall Creek Vineyards – 30 Year Timeline

    Growing a Texas Tradition….since 1975
First planted in 1975 with 13 different varieties, mostly French-American hybrids
Consulted with California professors Vince Petrucci and H.P. Olmo; they suggest adding vinifera grapes, the regal European varieties: cabernet, merlot, chard, chenin blanc, sauvignon blanc, Emerald Riesling, and Carnelian

1983 – FCV 1st Chenin Blanc topped the “Wines and Spirits Buying Guide” for all CBs in America
1985 - Fall Creek Vineyards’ wines were served at President Ronald Reagan’s Inauguration as one of 50 American Wineries invited to be part of the “Taste of America.” Only two wineries were chosen outside of California, Fall Creek being one of those chosen by Robert Lawrence Balzar, California wine writer and authority. Fall Creek Vineyards wines were chosen again to be served at Presidential Inaugurations in1989, 2001, 2005
1990s – FCV Granite Reserve, Chenin Blanc and Cascade collectively receive 12 “Best Buy” awards in American wine ratings

1990 – FCV Chard tied for top honors in a competition of TX Chardonnay and French white Burgundy in Burgundy, France
1990-1994 - The late Andre Tchelistcheff, America’s most influential post-prohibition winemaker consulted with the Aulers to analyze the potential of their Cabernet Sauvignon, for which he gave high marks. “Plant more. I think we can expect to see some fine reds from Fall Creek in the years to come,” said Tchelistcheff. FCV’s acclaimed MERITUS is the result of Andre’s consultation
1991 – FCV Carnelian received the third highest rating of 1100 wines in the Atlanta International Wine comp
1996 – FCV CB was rated “Best new World CB” in the 1997 world International wine comp
