Tuscan Winemaker’s Dinner at Duchman Winery

Posted on August 20, 2012

We were very excited to be able to attend the first bi-monthly Tuscan Winemaker’s Dinner at Duchman Winery. We hadn’t been there in a couple of months, so we enjoyed catching up with the people we’ve befriended there, and were eager to meet Dave Reilly, the Winemaker. Read More

Alamosa Wine Cellars- One LONG Round Trip

Posted on August 20, 2012

Poor Julie. You know, she really must love me. My little bit of OCD really kicked in today and I acted a bit beyond rational and drove all the way from Pearland to Bend, TX so we could visit Alamosa Wine Cellar. It’s 5-1/2 hours each way.  Read More

Bending Branches, Crushing Grapes, Making Wine

Posted on August 20, 2012

We’re a little crazy. We’ll drive hundreds of miles and hours on end just to visit a winery. We’ll even pass by closer wineries we have yet to visit for one special winery or one special wine, or sometimes to visit just one special winemaker. Read More

Tasting Notes: Dave Reilly’s Unlabeled Hill Country Blend

Posted on August 20, 2012

Waaaaaaaay back in March, Julie and I were able to attend the first Duchman Winemaker Dinner. At the end of the meal Dave poured from unlabeled bottles and told us the story of his “Hill Country Blend”. Totally experimental blend of grapes from the Hill Country – and I have no idea what the blend is. Read More

Wild Hair Road Trip to Alamosa Cellars

Posted on August 20, 2012

In my post about Haak Winery, I mentioned picking up some wine for Jim Johnson (@AlamosaWineGuy) at Alamosa Cellars (@alamosawine). Wanderlust was getting the better of me this week, so I messaged Jim and Karen to see if they were going to be hanging around and ready to get their wine.  Read More

On the Road Again- Chisholm Trail Winery

Our first road trip of the year started like most of our road trips: on a whim. Our destinations are usually selected the same way, and Chisholm Trail Winery was no exception. Read More

Duchman Family Winery- Introducing the 2011 Edition White

Posted on August 20, 2012

We almost didn’t go to the Houston release party for the Duchman Family WInery 2011 White Wines. I sidetracked our departure from home with a quick duckling-rescue-op, much to the surprise and delight of my favorite crazy duck lady; and when we had the ducklings and their momma out of harm’s way it looked like we would be too late to participate. Nevertheless, we decided to get to Memorial Wine Cellar as quickly as Wanda and the law would allow and take our chances. Read More

William Chris Vineyards- Malbec Release and Grape Vine Planting

Posted on August 20, 2012

We had a choice of destinations today: We received our invitation to the Messina Hof VIP Reception and notice that William Chris Vineyards would be doing a short Grape Vine Planting gathering including a shoot to take home and get us hooked on grape growing – or give us a minute taste of the grape-grower’s pain. Read More

Willam Chris Vineyards- Experiencing “Hye Society”

Posted on August 20, 2012

I blogged just a little about our Sunday trip to William Chris Vineyards for the Malbec release party and Planting show-and-tell. We really went for the “plantlings” that we were going to get since we’re not pleased with the selection at Home Depot. Not that it matters much because I’m quite confident in my ability to torture a plant from a commercial grower as much as a retail nursery. Read More
